What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced while planning an event and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I have faced while planning an event was working with vendors who were not professionals. At times, couples have brought on friends to do the job of vendors and it brings in difficulties. I have evaluated the issues and presented resolutions. On the day of, I have had to double and triple-check that tasks were completed by the individuals. It has brought on much more work and stress but keeping the couple at the center of the goals has helped.

What are 2 trends in the event planning industry that you’re excited about?

  • Smaller weddings
  • Outdoor wedding

If you had unlimited resources, what would your dream client and event look like?

My dream client would be relaxed and friendly! They would keep each other as their focus as they moved through their checklist and to-dos. They would have a realistic budget and stay within that budget.

What’s the first event you can ever remember planning and how did it go?

Oh wow! I was probably in second grade and I planned a birthday party for my cat. I created invitations out of binder paper and colored it nicely. I think I drew a photo of my cat. I invited all my friends. I had great RSVPs. Then, my dad rained on my parade and had me cancel it. It was so disappointing. So, in my twenties, I ended up having a birthday party for a cat I owned.

What’s the most surprising or unusual request you have ever received from a client and were you able to fulfill it?

Yes! A short set up time (1 hour) for what should be at least 4 hours. Our team had to set up, chairs, linens, runners, centerpieces, silverware, favors, glassware, place cards, and much decor. Yes, I was able to expand my set up team. I did not charge the client at that time. Should this happen again, I would!
