After spending a few years in France working for a local wedding planning company, Heather decided to move back to her hometown of San Diego with her husband Christophe, a travel photographer, who took the opportunity to expand his horizons toward white dresses and bow ties in California. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced while planning an event and how did you overcome it?
After spending so many years out of San Diego, we had to build our network of professionals by visiting all the wedding venues in San Diego County (almost 400!). We found a lot of hidden gems along the way and met so many awesome wedding vendors.
What are 2 trends in the event planning industry that you’re excited about?
Getting married in a brewery! It doesn’t get more San Diego than this! We work with perfect booze-inspired affordable venues to host wedding ceremonies & receptions. It doesn’t stop there! You can also create your own custom bride & groom brew. Use hops as a table runner. Heck! Throw those into the bouquet too! Use growlers as vases. Have a Beer Ceremony over a Wine Ceremony. Do a Beer Toast instead of a Champagne Toast. Drink Beer Floats and send each guest home with a custom beer glass.
What are some tips for creating an elegant and memorable event on a tight budget?
Quite frequently, our couples ask us for wedding venues in San Diego that won’t break the bank. They are searching for places that are affordable, unique, and just plain awesome. We all know the search for the perfect venue can be overwhelming. TIP: Ask venues about their Friday, Sunday + weekday availability. Many offer reduced rental fees that will get you even closer to your ideal budget!
How important are your relationships with vendors and what are some ways that you successfully cultivate and ensure good rapport?
Working as wedding professionals who do this every weekend we know what to expect. We know what goes into every wedding and what needs to be done in order to make it a success. We are here to guide our couple and make sure their big day is as awesome as possible. We have established strong relationships with local vendors over the years.
What’s the most surprising or unusual request you have ever received from a client and were you able to fulfill it?
We had to plan a pirate-themed wedding where the bride & groom and all the guests were dressed as pirates and we were able to fulfill their needs by putting together the pirate decor. Definitely one to remember!!
