How long has your company been producing events? What is your main focus?

I opened my company in 2004 but incorporated in 2012 and added staff to the team. Now in our 10th year, we have grown to a full time team of 6 and focus our efforts on corporate, government and association events plus one festival.

What do you enjoy most about your role in corporate event planning?

The most enjoyable part of our job are the teams and people we get to work with on the various projects. Our mantra is to become an extension to the teams we work with and take on all the extra volume of work that events cause. We learn so much about the various industries we work with and not only are we welcomed to the teams we are valued for our expertise.

How do you keep up with the constant change in the industry?

Listening, research and by asking questions. We not only meet clients but we meet vendors, speakers and guests. When we see something cool we ask how to do it and then we research it and try it out. Small tips and advice along the way can prove to have a huge impact. This is a great industry and if you are open to learning, everyone is open to sharing.

What do you see as the corporate event industry’s greatest challenge, currently?

The greatest challenge for corporate events right now is what should they do! Live, Virtual, Hybrid or something in between. In many cases they are frozen in their strategic plans and hope that the pandemic will pass but what we have learned is that the world has changed and those embracing change are advancing and learning. It’s time to embrace change and those ready to do that are making headway in the exciting opportunities to make events awesome.

How do you leverage event technology and what would you consider the biggest game-changer?

We embrace technology everyday. Examples include registration, conference apps, volunteer platforms, merchandise – you name it, we have tried a few and have some favourites. The biggest game changers are the virtual apps. Adding a main stage to conference apps was a great solution and in the past couple years there are have been so many advancements for the better and then the apps intergrating with other apps to make our lives easier.

Technology has made events awesome. The event industry has come so far in what can be done in the past two years!

Sustainability is a current movement that can be challenging for large events. What is your approach?

Planning and financial modeling.

We run a large airshow and in 2020 launched an innovative twist on a traditional format to a drive-in concept. We ended up selling out and turning the financial position of the show into a place of strength and sustainability. Not to mention we were the only airshow in Canada.

The approach is to embrace change, seek new ideas and be innovative. This event will be evaluated every year based on sustainability and guest experience. Large events have a place in society and together we can ensure an economic upturn with large events sooner than later.

How do you measure the success of an event?

Guest Experience (everytime).
Did we meet the client goals and objectives?
Did we exceed expectations for the client?
