How long has your company been producing events? What is your main focus?
We have been crushing events for 4 years and collectively our team has over 40 years of experience in the industry. We focus on corporate events including meetings, off-sites, incentive trips, retreats, team outings, seasonal parties, and many more. We primarily service the Southern California area but we have also produced events in other states and international destinations.
Our clients are our priority alongside driving incremental revenue to our vendor and venue partners. Along with providing exceptional service for our clients, we help them drive ROI to client events and ensure employee engagement and satisfaction with internal events.
How do you keep up with the constant change in the industry?
As a cutting-edge events company, it’s our duty to be informed and receptive to the changes in the industry. We do our best to constantly research new trends, attend tradeshows, venue openings, and industry events to learn what’s important to our clients and vendors. Our team is great at collaborating and sharing new finds with one another, not to mention coming up with some pretty creative concepts of our own.
We also make an effort to continuously gather feedback from our clients because they provide valuable insight into the industry and how it directly affects them and their company.
Do you have any advice for a company having a hard time choosing a theme? Is a theme necessary?
While we love themes here at We Crush (we have 50+ pages of mood boards to prove it) we don’t think it’s necessary for all events. It can be a great way to take an event from ordinary to extraordinary but there are definitely do’s & don’ts to be mindful of.
Sometimes a theme (especially one that’s very specific) can pigeon hole you in one direction, limiting the options you have for entertainment and decor. Another thing to avoid is sensory overload. If you have a super cool venue that already comes with all the bells & whistles then you might not want to outshine it. For example, an arcade or a theme park both have so many things to see & do that a theme may get lost and not have as great of an impact.
Ultimately, a theme can be a great way to take things up a notch when used wisely.
What do you see as the corporate event industry’s greatest challenge, currently?
Nowadays there are so many different software and technology platforms that can assist with the event planning process but they each act as only one piece to a much bigger puzzle. The market has become so saturated with all of these different tools that it has become overwhelming just trying to navigate which ones and how many to use.
Corporate Events have tons of moving parts and are constantly evolving. Technology can only go so far when it comes to creating these real-life experiences for guests. As a service-based business, we know how important that hands-on approach can be to take care of everything from A to Z.
What is your favorite city for events and why?
The City of Angels of course! Los Angeles is home to some of the most creative vendors and epic entertainers in the world. We are constantly coming across unique activations and one-of-a-kind experiences. Not to mention we have a melting pot of venues, so there is something for everyone and plenty of options to mix things up year after year. You could have dinner under a space shuttle, a meeting aboard a historic ship, a summer party on the beach, or a holiday party at a mansion in the Hollywood Hills! We’ve got it all and within a 30-mile radius!
How do you measure the success of an event?
There are a million things that can go wrong at an event, but there is one thing that truly matters and that is the guest experience. As an event planner, you have to be a duck: calm, cool, and collected on the surface while your feet are moving a mile a minute underwater. As long as the attendees are happy, everything else that happens behind the scenes will melt away.
There is no better high than the lights, camera, action moment of guest arrival. I have even been known to hide near the entrance just to sneak a peek at everyone’s reactions as they walk in.
For a successful event, the impact doesn’t stop there though. We love when our clients tell us about how their team is still raving about the event around the office afterward. One of my favorite things to hear is “How are we ever going to top this next year?” To me, that is the perfect combination of both a compliment and a challenge!
